Beechjets
The origins of the Beechjet 400 are fairly complicated for a light corporate jet that was only in production for 17 years. Both the Beechjet 400 and its progeny, the 400A began as offshoots of the Mitsubishi MU300 Diamond II business jet, built in 1978. Raytheon/Beechcraft acquired the design in 1986, revamping it with a new engine and interior on top of other minor refinements. Several years later, the 400 became the 400A and featured a larger interior, longer range, a higher maximum take-off weight and the most advanced flight deck available at the time.
With the exception of U.S. and Japanese military training purposes, (the Beechjet 400A is the source of the T-1A Jayhawk tanker and transport aircrew trainer) production of the 400A ceased in 2003 when the aircraft was modified to become the Hawker 400XP.
